Wayzata Real Estate Market

While the majority of Wayzata's economy is based on the seasonal tourism industry, it is also home to the corporate headquarters of Cargill, the nation's largest privately held corporation. Located just west of the I-94 and State Road 12 interchange, the city itself sees the majority of its traffic during summer months when recreational boaters come to enjoy the lake. To accommodate, several locally owned restaurants and shops sit side-by-side with their nationally owned counterparts. From retail space at the Colonial Square mall to outdoor retail areas at Wayzata Bay Plaza, the city welcomes both locally owned establishments as well as larger retailers and restaurateurs.

Wayzata was originally founded in 1852 and became a resort destination in 1890 when crude timber buildings were replaced with historic homes and businesses. Many can still be seen, fully restored, at Wayzata Depot which is now the home to the Chamber of Commerce and Historical Society. Because of the city's emphasis on historical preservation, industrial warehouses are not found in the landscape, but shopping center and office space still abounds.
